
Sarah is a 2nd Degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt, 2× IBJJF World Champion, and AST Instructor with more than two decades of martial arts experience and a professional background in protective services and security.
Her security experience has given her firsthand experience dealing with conflict, unpredictable behaviour, de-escalation, safety assessment, and situations that can change quickly.
Combined with her extensive martial-arts training, Sarah brings a unique perspective to self-defense that goes far beyond learning physical techniques.
She founded StrongHER to teach women how to recognize risk, prevent situations from escalating, trust their instincts, and move through the world with greater confidence, awareness, and strength.
Melissa is a Registered Clinical Counsellor and mental-health leader who brings expertise in women’s mental health, empowerment, and psychological well-being.
She is also a published researcher, collaborating with UBC researchers on studies examining women’s mental health, social support, and barriers to accessing care.
Most recently, she contributed to a 2026 research study focused on developing an empowerment toolkit to promote maternal mental health, bringing together research, lived experience, and evidence-based strategies.
Lindsay is a community programs leader with extensive experience working alongside women and families navigating complex situations, major life transitions, and moments when safety and stability matter most.
As Director of Programs & Services at Mamas for Mamas, she leads programs and partnerships that strengthen support and empowerment for women and families.
Lindsay brings an important perspective to self-defense: understanding your options, finding your voice, and recognizing the many ways we can create greater safety in our lives.
